Founder & Chairman
Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Ahmed
Visionary Leader in Eye Care
For more than fifty years, I have witnessed the life-changing impact of vision restoration. I have also witnessed the tragedy of preventable blindness.
Many retinal diseases are treatable. Yet patients suffer simply because they lack resources.
ERWO was founded with a deep sense of responsibility. We wanted to create a center where no patient is refused treatment due to financial hardship.
Our journey from a small initiative to a growing healthcare institution has been possible because of trust, dedication, and community support.
We remain committed to excellence, compassion, and continuous growth.
Together, we can eliminate preventable blindness and ensure that every individual, regardless of background, has the opportunity to see the world clearly.
The Journey of Dr Mukhtar and Madam Elza
ERWO was founded in 2017. It was the brainchild of the ever-passionate Dr Mohammed Mukhtar Ahmed, an eminent pioneer in his field and one of the first surgeons to introduce retinal surgery in Pakistan during the 1970s. Dr Mukhtar married Elza Moysons, a Belgian national, in 1968. With her support, he returned to Pakistan in the 1970s to contribute to the advancement of ophthalmology through pioneering techniques. In gratitude and inspiration, Dr Mukhtar named the organisation after his wife, who, ironically, suffers from pathological myopia that has severely affected her vision.
Over the past six years, Dr Mukhtar has devoted himself to establishing a retinal care centre based on a self-sustainability model, where income generated from paying patients subsidises treatment for low-income and underprivileged individuals. ERWO is located in the heart of Sindh, Nawabshah.
