Our Foundation and Purpose

Elza Retina Welfare Organization was founded in 2017 by Dr Muhammad Mukhtar Ahmed, a pioneer of retinal surgery in Pakistan. With over five decades of service in ophthalmology, Dr Mukhtar witnessed the devastating consequences of untreated retinal conditions:

Men and women losing their independence due to preventable blindness
Elderly patients living in avoidable darkness
Diabetic patients losing their vision due to unaffordable injections

For more than fifty years, I have witnessed the life-changing impact of restoring vision. I have also seen the tragedy of preventable blindness.

Many retinal diseases are treatable, yet patients continue to suffer simply because they lack the necessary resources.

ERWO was founded with a deep sense of responsibility. Our aim was to create a centre where no patient is refused treatment due to financial hardship.

Our journey from a small initiative to a growing healthcare institution has been made possible through trust, dedication, and community support.

We remain committed to excellence, compassion, and continuous improvement.
